JOIN OUR TEAMThe Cornell Big Red Men's Hockey team is once again raising money by blocking shots - this year to support two organizations important to the team.
The first is Kesem - a national 501 organization that supports children who are affected by a parent's cancer. Kesem provides year-round programs and services to support children at no cost to families. The second is the Kids with Courage Foundation - whose mission is to supports children and young people who are forced to fight each day to live —those battling Type 1 diabetes. As a 501 (c) (3) charity, Kids With Courage programming provides opportunities that empower, educate and create positive outcomes directly in children's lives. With the impact our service project had on Kesem this past year, we thought the addition of the Kids with Courage Foundation was a great way to diversify our support. Both Kesem and Kids with Courage have specific programs towards assisting those affected, specifically children. As student athletes, we pride ourselves on improving the next generation. When we were kids it was the junior hockey and college athletes that inspired us to puruse our careers. Connecting the two organizations through the idea of helping kids was a key factor of this years service project. As a team, our goal is to block as many shots as possible this season to raise an ultimate sum of dollars to donate to Kesem and the Kids with Courage Foundation. |
HOW IT WORKSBy joining our team, you will be pledging any amount of money - starting at a minimum of $0.10 - per blocked shot that the Cornell Big Red has throughout the season.
At the end of the season, we will split the total funds donated equally and donate half to Kesem and half to the Kids with Courage Foundation. Last year, we raised just over $30,000 and we are aiming to beat that for our 2024-2025 season. |
MORE ABOUT KESEM
In addition to year round services and support, Kesem offers a free one week overnight summer camp for kids 6 to 18 years old who have been impacted by a parent's cancer.
The camp creates a fun atmosphere and experiences to help the children escape - even if for a short time - the challenges of coping with a parent's cancer diagnosis. |
